Hello from Northern Illinois!

I have wanted to build a droid for quite some time now.  I have several 3d printers and would like to get a start.  I will, no doubt, have a ton of questions as I proceed!  Thanks for having me!

Welcome aboard!

Most people start with the dome and then work down. The latest stuff from MrBaddeley is pretty awesome. The Mark II body has been cut into smaller pieces for the smaller printers and has lots of improvements over the Mark II design. I would set your goals on based on how much you want your droid to do. Having that in mind pick a control system so you have an idea of any mods specific to your doors might need to be made to minimize reprints.

Also look at where you are going to use your R2D2, inside or out , hot or cold as it will determine if you use PLA or ABS due to strength and also heat.

I recommend PETG for the structural parts of the droid. It is easier to print than ABS and stronger than PLA.
