Big Printing
#11
Well, the wait is over.  My Big 60 is assembled, calibrated and ready to print!  I am guessing about 36 hours spent over five days to put it all together, including the enclosure (which I hadn't quite finished in the photo below).  Overall, the directions were pretty good.  All of the parts were included except some cosmetic wire holder plastic strips that go in the 40x40 aluminum extrusion bars (they are on the way to me now).  There was only one part that got a little cosmetic damage in shipping. Overall, I would give the instructions a 9.5 out of 10 for completeness and clarity.  I did have a few minor missteps.  However, there were no situations where I had to go back several steps and rebuild anything.

The nice thing is everything worked as advertised when I powered it up.  I spent about 40 minutes on the calibration routines and the printer was level was spot on!.  The bed leveling probes 100 spots and then displays a variation matrix.  The standard is to not have more than 1mm difference between any two points.  The matrix came back ALL zeros!

Here is the printer before I put the doors and sides on.

Here is a shot of my first real print.  It's an R5-D4 single print version 2 Dome.

Holy cow! That thing is huge.

Anxious to see how the single print dome turns out.

Seriously, I think that sucker is just about big enough to print the entire droid in one go!

You could do his body without the skirt.  Not confident in it enough to risk a print that big yet.

Print time would not be in hours anymore but days or weeks.

So, far so good. I’m currently dialing in the slicer settings.
